Projects

Once upon a time and far away (Omaha, NE) Tara and Andy got murried....and were very poor. Upon their marriage they were given a very old bedroom set, which has been in their bedroom decor ever since. They fixed up rooms and bought countless things for their children, but never felt justified in purchasing furniture for themselves. Thus the brilliant and scary idea. Enough with the third person. So I came across this blog where this woman had almost EXACTLY the same bedroom furniture as us and she decided to refinish it. It was BEAUTIFUL. And I thought, 'I could do that'...so after several hours of sanding, a dozen spray cans later and few dollars spent I got the result I wanted.

BEFORE:

AFTER:

(To all my sisters: yes that is THE VERY same alarm clock that I've had since I was 10, I was able to update the furniture...still working on the clock.)

Next project: For a very long time I've wanted to do something in the front yard. I am not a horticulturist, or anything close...I'm just not very good at landscaping or the artistry of anything outdoors. So I tried. I bought rocks, dirt and mulch. I weeded, pruned and trimmed. Then I carried 2100 lbs of rock and strategically placed them around the front and back yards... (Andy took care of the other 1000 lbs of rock). Then I shoveled and wheel burrowed dirt and mulch to various parts of the yard. It may not look like much, but this was the end result:

Then I planted flowers...now On to my vegetable garden! Better late then never right?

That is so impressive!!! I'm working on our bathroom right now- I hope it turns out half as good as your bedroom set!!!

Tara, it looks amazing. You did a great job! You got it done before mom and dad got there. No clothes anywhere either. :)

I think the rocks in the front yard look good too. I can't imagine how sore you were.

No wonder you are now sick . . . :)

I am so impressed! I've started looking for 2 nightstands and a dresser to refinish for my own bedroom. I only wish I had the furniture to start with. So when I finally find it, are you willing to give me a few pointers?

I can't believe you hauled all those rocks. :-) The yard looks great! And I hope you weren't too sore from all that lifting.

I am so impressed. Seeing as though you have so much free time and all, you can come finish some furniture at my house if you'd like!
Way to go!

Tara, love your bedroom furniture project...I have been inspired! By the way, I laugh when I look at your heading "Hart Family" because the H lines up with the fence just perfectly and looks like an F to me. So when I look at it I read "Fart Family" and I laugh. Hard.

Absolutely brilliant!!! I love it. Ok, I totally think you should also do the bed posts, I know easy for me to say, but I think it would tie everything all in together! Your room looks fab!
