Or "Melvy" for short is our latest great idea :) He is a 5 month old mini Yorkshire Terrier full of energy and small as can be. He only gets up to 4-5 lbs and is currently 3 or 4 and about the cutest little ball of fur ever. He was supposedly potty trained when we got him (yesterday), but he has had a few accidents, so we hope it's just a transitional thing :)
He does sleep through the night, and if any of my sisters are reading this (us very un- knowledgeable dog people), they are just like newborns at the beginning and don't sleep all night. They cry and you have to take them potty, etc. Little did I know any of this before our first attempt a few years ago with Rusty the old Golden Retriever (that great idea that latest for 4 months!). Anyway, that's what made this so perfect because he was potty trained (or mostly), sleeping through the night, but still a puppy :)
The whole idea started when we went over to a friends house during the hurricane power outage and they had a cute beagle. Kaylee ran right inside their house and their dog jumped up in her face and started licking her to death. Well, Kaylee being the bright little girl she is just started licking the dog right back! She just giggled the entire time. It was so CUTE. So I thought maybe it would be fun to get the kids a puppy for Christmas. I started researching and became my OCD self when I get ideas and found that a Yorkie would be the ideal dog for us. He doesn't shed, is good for allergy sufferers, is small, smart and good with kids.
I'll keep you posted on this "great idea" and we'll see how great it is in a few weeks :)
