Audrie's 5th Birthday!

This captures Audrie's personality perfectly, her current personality that is. She is in this soft spoken, proper, prim, princess mode where she flutters her eyelashes when she speaks. Cute sometimes, annoying other times :) She asked for a strawberry shortcake with chocolate cake, no strawberries, blueberries instead. I didn't have a chocolate cake and she decided it would be better with strawberries AND blueberries. I don't ever remember making such unique requests for my birthday, it either was chocolate or vanilla....
Dad carried on a tradition he started with Tyler, where he brings a big bunch of balloons home and rings the doorbell while the birthday boy/girl opens it and gets the surprise of a lifetime. Well now it's somewhat expected, (not always) and the kids really, REALLY, love it. I hope he continues to do it even as they get older. I love it too :)
When we first joined the gym we currently go to Tyler was able to experience climbing a indoor rock climbing wall. Well, Audrie was not quite old enough and Dad made a promise that as soon as she turns 5 we would get to the rock wall ASAP. Audrie took that quite literally and we went the night of her birthday and she had a ball. Not only was she having a blast, but she was good at it and almost got to the top every time she tried! (Obviously we had a hard time keeping her shirt down!)
Tyler had to have a turn as well, of course, mostly because he had to see if he could beat Audrie's mad skills. He tried really hard and did very well, but Audrie just couldn't be beaten! It's a good thing too because it was her birthday and if anyone knows my children we are EXTREMELY sensitive about these things...especially if it's our birthday :)

Who knew my little 4Lb 15 oz baby would turn into such a big girl? These first 5 years have certainly gone by entirely too fast! She is such a light in our family and continues to help me learn patience. She is such a sweetheart to her little sister and is very selfless when it comes to her big brother and would do anything for him...literally (he takes advantage of this sometimes). I'm very grateful that Heavenly Father has entrusted me these beautiful spirits to teach me, I love you Kiddos!

I wouldn't have thought that 5 would be a really ground breaking birthday, but Audrie has really changed - grown up - this year. We were having dinner with an old friend in Florida last week, and I think Audrie talked to her more than anyone else at the table. She can carry a conversation all by herself, you don't even have to nod your head!

One thing I don't think she will ever grow out of though is her split personality. She is fire and ice. Crying, laughing, happy, sad, it's like a childrens book and as fast as you can flip the page she has a mood swing. On the bright side, it's hard to get too perturbed by her, because you know that no matter how upset she is a hug and a giggle are just around the corner.
